The role of a Rail Engineering Technician

A Rail Engineering Technician provides technical support to Rail Engineers.

During and after their training, a Rail Engineering Technician will provide support in the following areas of The Railway: traction, rolling stock & rail systems. A Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician Apprentice will learn the core skills and knowledge listed below and in our brochure.

Rail Engineering workers are responsible for the safe construction, installation, maintenance and renewal of Traction & Rolling Stock, to provide a safe and reliable Railway for customers. A high level of safety critical work is involved in Rail Engineering, therefore activities require a disciplined and responsible approach.
