With help from Qualitrain, Chesterfield-based manufacturer Mallatite has bucked the industrial trend with a 20 percent increase in its workforce since March.
The continuing need to light our streets, trunk roads and motorways is behind the creation of 12 new posts at Mallatite, part of the International Hill and Smith Holdings group which produces a wide range of products for the road, rail, utilities and construction industries.
“For a while now have been working very hard to transform the way we operate,” said Operations Manager Andy Toplis, “and we’ve broken production records every month now, for six months.
“It’s true we have been successful in winning new work, and that has already meant the creation of 12 excellent manufacturing jobs – the sort of jobs this area so badly needs. But the real reason we’re enjoying success is the continuing effort management and workforce are putting in to make the business more efficient. We’re not achieving growth by good luck. We’re winning business because we can deliver an excellent product, on time and at a competitive price.”
“Qualitrain has helped us to shape the NVQ Level 2 Business Improvement Training package to make it bespoke for our particular requirements, and because that makes it very relevant to their daily work, our people have responded very enthusiastically. That in turn has allowed us to make significant improvements without the sort of pain that can often accompany change.”
