What are Functional Skills?
Functional Skills are the fundamental ENGLISH, MATHS and ICT skills that people need for their working and personal lives1. They are the most useful and important skills that anyone can have.
While you may already be familiar with the term “functional skills” in relation to your job search or choosing which training course to enrol on, it’s important to understand what these skills mean for your career.
Your career
Functional skills are the foundation of any job or career. They provide the basis for every job, whether you’re working as an accountant, a salesperson or a machine operator.
In fact, these skills have become more important than ever because they are used in almost every industry and sector–from banking to construction and from healthcare to hospitality.
Apprenticeships
If you’re thinking about learning an apprenticeship, or if you want to learn more at work, then functional skills are very important. They help people get jobs and develop their careers.
While functional skills are not required for a learner to enrol on an apprenticeship, it is a Government requirement these are achieved by the end of the Apprenticeship.
Functional Skills at Qualitrain Ltd
Here at Qualitrain Ltd we are proud to have our own Functional Skills department, consisting of 4 expert Tutors that have a background of teaching in secondary schools. When a learner requires their functional skills, they are referred to this team who coach and support them through the learning and assessment.
In the first two months of 2023, Qualitrain Ltd achieved a solid pass rate of 100% for Functional Skills learners, an absolute testament to the dedication of our team and their learners collaboratively!
